1. Introduce about Passport Vietnam

Passport is a government-owned document that the Ministry of Public Security issued to Vietnamese residents for entry and exit, for the purpose of nationality and identity verification. The validity period of a passport is no more than 10 years for citizens 14 years of age and older, and less than 5 years for citizens under 14 years of age.

To put it simply, if you want to leave the country, one of the important and required documents is the Passport - it is extremely important for immigration purposes in Vietnam and other countries. In the world. Passport also replaces Identity Card to perform some transactions in some specific cases.

2. Types of Vietnamese passports

In Vietnam, passports have 3 types: diplomatic, official and ordinary passports. In particular, ordinary passports are issued in accordance with regulations to all Vietnamese citizens regardless of religion, ethnicity or age.

  • Popular Passport: Issued to all Vietnamese citizens with household registration and identity card, with full citizenship rights.
  • Official Passport: Issued to government officials when traveling abroad to perform official duties assigned by the state.
  • Diplomatic Passport: Issued to holders of senior positions of the Party and State such as Secretary, Deputy Secretary, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee or higher; Ministers, Deputy Ministers of Ministries, Ministerial-level agencies, agencies attached to the Government.

The declaration form shall be signed by the parent clearly stating the full name and submitted on behalf of the child where the child is located. The declaration must be certified by the police of the place where the child permanently or temporarily resides and stamped with the photo border

4. Validity of passport of Vietnam

Each type of Vietnamese passport will have a different expiry date, Vietnam is currently circulating and using 3 types of passports:

  • Ordinary passport: Passport issued to Citizens from full 14 years old: Valid for 10 years and not renewed, if the passport expires, it is necessary to prepare documents to apply for a new passport. Passports issued exclusively for children under 14 years old: Valid for 05 years and not renewable. At the expiration of the 5-year expiry date, it is necessary to prepare the required documents and apply for a new passport.
  • Diplomatic passports, official passports usually have an expiry date of 1-5 years depending on each subject, this type of passport can be renewed once and the renewal period does not exceed 03 years.

* Additional costs if required by the Authority are not included in the above fee. You may be required to pay a fine due to passport damage or loss, and this fee will be decided by the Authority case by case.

If you apply for a passport online, you will need to pay additional fees to deliver the passport home by post office.

  • Express delivery: You have to pay an additional fee for using an authorized courier, this cost is determined by the delivery unit.
  • After receiving the receipt, go immediately to the post office to pay the fee and receive your passport

6.1 How many types of  Vietnamese passports?

There are 3 types of passport in Vietnam: popular passport, official passport, diplomatic passport.

6.2 How long is a passport valid?

Validity period of passport according to Clause 2, Article 4 of Decree 136/2007/ND-CP amended in Decree 65/2012/ND-CP and Law on Entry and Exit of Vietnamese Citizens No. 49/2019 /QH14:

  • Passport issued to Citizens 14 years of age or older: Valid for 10 years and cannot be renewed;
  • Passport issued specifically for children under 14 years old: Valid for 5 years and cannot be renewed;
  • Ordinary passports issued under simplified procedures are valid for no more than 12 months and cannot be extended;
  • Diplomatic passports and official passports are valid from 01 year to 05 years; Can be renewed once for no more than 03 years
